Jacob Elordi planned acting hiatus before receiving ‘Wuthering Heights’ call

Actor Jacob Elordi recently revealed that he had planned an acting hiatus, but a text from director Emerald Fennell changed everything. Fennell finally persuaded Elordi to play the complicated Heathcliff in her upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

Fennell, who was behind 2020’s Promising Young Woman, 2015’s The Danish Girl, and 2023’s Saltburn, wrote, directed, and produced the new Gothic psychological drama film. Elordi starred as the enigmatic lead in Saltburn, which marked the beginning of his professional relationship with Fennell.

“I was really very lucky,” the 27-year-old actor revealed to IndieWire. “I was going to take a break for a while, and then Emerald just very simply texted me, and you can’t run from that text.”

Elordi also praised his co-star Margot Robbie’s performance in the movie. “She’s incredible in the film, she’s a livewire,” he gushed. “I’m so, so excited for people to see it. She’s a beautiful actor and she gave so, so much.

The Barbie actor will play Catherine Earnshaw, the film’s protagonist and Elordi’s love interest. In the role, Robbie will step in front of the camera and serve as the film’s producer.

The casting choice for Elori’s character was surrounded by backlash, Far Out had already predicted such an occurrence. Following the release of her twisted tale in 2023, Far Out wrote of the film, “The similarities between Oliver and Heathcliffe are striking,” likening Fennell’s creation to Brontë’s own.

Elordi will also star alongside Saltburn co-star Alison Oliver, who will play Isabella Linton in the film. It is set to hit cinemas on February 14th, 2026, and fans are eagerly waiting for a trailer to drop.
