Jack White’s first-ever art show to open in London in May
Jack White will debut his first-ever art exhibition, titled ‘These Thoughts May Disappear’, at London’s Newport Street Gallery this May.
White shared the exciting news with a video uploaded on social media, which shows the former White Stripes frontman at work with several forms of artistic media.
The accompanying caption explained, “Much of White’s visual work has remained private, yet his design sensibility has permeated the broad creative ecosystem of Third Man Records, the record label he founded in 2001.”
The visual exhibition will run from May 29th to September 13th, and will also feature works by artists Gordon Newton and Robert Sestok.
The show promises to “bring together a dynamic selection of White’s assemblage sculptures, furniture pieces, and interactive constructions, largely forged from reclaimed materials, hardware store conveniences, and industrial remnants.”
This is in keeping with White’s life before The White Stripes found fame, as he apprenticed with another musician and upholsterer, Brian Muldoon, at Detroit’s Third Man Upholstery. The pair were once in the band the Upholsterers.
Newport Street Gallery was famously founded by Damien Hirst in 2015 to display his personal collection. The pair publicly collaborated in 2021, when White played a surprise set on Hirst’s London rooftop, later released as a live album.
This year, White’s name has been in the headlines for other reasons. The star continues his tirade against President Donald Trump; he recently called out his military campaign in Iran.
In one of many Instagram posts calling out the President, White sarcastically wrote, “Can you believe Donny hasn’t received a real Nobel Peace Prize yet? Unfair! Maybe in his third term, he’ll get one.” Earlier last month, he declared Trump “a racist, a rapist, a felon, [and] a grifter” and called for his arrest.
Fans can see more of White’s artwork in the meantime on his personal website, Jack White Art and Design, which was launched in 2021 and has the tagline “beauty from construct, construct from purpose”.
