Ike Turner Jr, son of Tina and Ike Turner, dead at 67
Ike Turner Jr, the son of Tina and Ike Turner, has died aged 67 in a Los Angeles hospital.
Turner Jr, who worked as a sound engineer, passed away on October 4th after suffering from kidney failure, according to family member Jacqueline Bullock, who confirmed the news to TMZ.
Bullock, Tina’s nephew, said in a statement, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my cousin, Ike Turner, Jr. ‘Junior’ was more than a cousin to me, but rather a brother, as we grew up in the same famed household together.”
She continued her statement by highlighting his successful music career to Page Six: “As the son of Tina and Ike Turner, from an early age, his talents were evident as there wasn’t an instrument he did not want to play. While he favored the drums early on, my aunt and his mother, Tina Turner, insisted that he break down his drum kit after each practice. This led him to favor the keys.”
Bullock then shared how Turner Jr later started to help with the running of Bolic Sound Studios, which was founded by his late father, Ike Turner.
She then thanked fans who have shown an “outpouring of condolences” to the family during this challenging time, before requesting privacy.
The highlight of Turner Jr’s career in the music industry came in 2007 when he shared a Grammy for his work on Ike Turner’s final album, Risin’ with the Blues, which was celebrated with the award for ‘Best Traditional Blues Album’.
Tina adopted Ike Jr during her marriage to his father, as well as adopting his other son, Michael, from Turner’s prior relationship with Lorraine Taylor. Turner Jr would work with both parents in a professional setting as a sound engineer.
He later became estranged from Tina, who died in 2023, during the latter parts of her life, telling the Daily Mail in 2023, “My mother is living her life — she has a new husband and she’s in Europe. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with the past.”
Turner Jr celebrated his 67th birthday just one day before his death on October 4th.
