Tina Turner was born to Floyd Richard Bullock, an overseer on a sharecropping farm, and Zelma Priscilla Bullock in Brownsville, Tennessee. She had two sisters, Alline and Ruby. Turner married Ike Turner in 1962 before leaving the abusive relationship in 1976 and finalising their divorce two years later. In 2013, she married German music executive Erwin Bach after a relationship spanning nearly three decades. Turner had four sons: Craig, Ronnie, Ike Turner Jr and Michael Turner.
