We recently covered the taunts thrown out at the band IDLES from Sleaford Mods’ Jason Williamson, who thought that they were appropriating the working class struggle. Now, IDLES’ leading man Joe Talbot has responded to the insults and given his point of view on Williamson.
Williamson said back in February that he was offended by the band appropriating the working class outlook and said IDLES were “cliched, patronising, insulting and mediocre”.
Talbot has responded in a new interview with The Independent saying “This idea that I can’t speak out against austerity or food banks – that I can’t think one of the richest economies in the world having fucking food banks is wrong – I can’t say that because I’m fortunate enough to be able to feed my child? What the fuck is wrong with this guy?”
Talbot went on to say he could no longer consider Williamson a “hero” as he once did and became more angry at his own reaction to the remarks than anything else. Talbot had previously said that he didn’t see the value in telling everyone “fuck you” as he claimed Sleaford Mods were doing.
With two of our favourite bands at each other’s throats – we just want to say: “we love you both, this is a safe space and we can all get along together if we talk more”.
