Hugh Laurie pays tribute to ‘Tehran’ co-creator Dana Eden after Israeli producer found dead in Athens
Hugh Laurie has paid tribute to Tehran producer Dana Eden after she was found dead in her hotel room on February 15th.
Tehran, the hit Israeli spy thriller series, which stars Laurie and Glenn Close, is currently filming it’s fourth season in Greece, which brought Eden to Athens which is where she died aged 52.
Tehran has used Athens as its primary filming location since the first season due to Israeli’s being prohibited from visiting Iran.
Her death is suspected to have been caused by suicide, according to police. However, an investigation is currently underway, and no cause of death has yet been confirmed by the authorities.
Taking to X, Laurie wrote on February 17th, “Dana Eden, who co-created and produced ‘Tehran’, died on Sunday, seemingly by her own hand. It’s a terrible thing. She was brilliant, and funny, and an exceptional leader. Love and condolences to all who knew her.”
Tehran is an anti-Iran programme about a Mossad agent that infiltrates the Iranian regime, which led social media users to unsubstantially link Iran to Eden’s death without evidence.
Donna and Shula Productions, who make Tehran, have since refuted claims on social media that Eden was killed by the Iranian regime, stating, “The production company wants to make it clear that the rumors of the death being criminal or nationalistic are not true and baseless.”
They added, “We call on the media and the public not to publish unfounded theories and to act with responsibility and sensitivity. This is a moment of immense pain for the family, friends, and colleagues.”
Following her death, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation described Eden as being “among the senior figures in Israel’s television industry and played a central role in creating and leading some of the corporation’s most prominent and influential productions”.
Eden’s body was tragically discovered after her brother was unable to contact her via phone despite sending numerous messages.
