Heart’s Ann Wilson reveals why she’s performing in a wheelchair in new health update

Heart singer Ann Wilson has explained why she is currently performing in a wheelchair and revealed it has nothing to do with her cancer diagnosis last year.

In 2024, Heart were forced to postpone their plans for a European tour due to Wilson being diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer. Fortunately, the treatment was a success, and Wilson is now back on stage with Heart for an extensive arena tour, which is set to continue until the end of August in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The new tour dates began on February 28th, 2025, in Las Vegas and concerns were raised due to Wilson performing from a wheelchair. However, during a new episode of the After Dinner Thinks With Ann Wilson podcast, she explained: “I think some people thought that I was in a wheelchair because of cancer, which I just kicked its ass and I’m nice and clear now. It’s not about cancer.”

Wilson then explained the incident that affected her mobility: “It’s about me being a klutz and missing a step and falling into a parking lot and busting my elbow in three places and then having to have it pinned back together with screws and all that kind of stuff.”

The singer said she is “perfectly fine” but currently cannot use her left arm. “So it’s hard to navigate when you just have one hand and your other whole arm is in a sling,” she added.

The Heart vocalist continued: “And you don’t have the same balance. So I had to get used to that. And singing on stage, I really think that the pain level is still way too high for me to take it out of the sling so I chose to sit because then I can just concentrate on singing and not on keeping my balance and having somebody out there catching me when I reel to the side.”

Wilson’s latest comments regarding her health come after she previously confirmed to People last week that she had received the all-clear from cancer, stating before the tour began, “I’m clear. I’m a little nervous because I haven’t done it in a year, but I’m there.”

Reflecting on her battle to return to the stage and looking back on the difficult last 12 months, Wilson added, “I’ve come from a really far away place to get up to the strength and energy you need to do it. I’m just really curious to see what I feel like when I walk out there. I think it’s just going to be great. I feel really empowered right now.”
