HBO share first look at Nick Frost as Hagrid in ‘Harry Potter’
HBO have unveiled the first image of Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid in the upcoming Harry Potter series.
Frost was one of the first members of the cast to be formally announced this year, alongside John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Luke Fallon as Quirinus Quirrell.
Following the announcement, Frost took to Instagram to share his joy at the casting. In the picture, he was holding a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone along with the caption: “You’re a wizard, Harry!!! Thank you for trusting me with such a loyal, gentle and courageous half-giant like Rubeus Hagrid.”
In tribute to the late Robbie Coltrane, who originally played Hagrid in the movies, Frost continued, “Robbie, I promise I won’t let you down.”
In a later interview, Frost vowed to be a fatherly figure on set to the younger cast members and offer support to the children of Hogwarts. The child actors include Dominic McLaughlin, who will play the titular character, as well as Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
Frost said of his role on set: “Look, I’m a dad myself, so I am going to be very protective to the children, and I think that is Hagrid’s — one of the kind of baselines of his relationship with those children. He’s very protective of them, and I honestly can’t wait.”
The image of Frost as Hagrid is the second picture released from the set after McLaughlin as Potter. Production is underway on the forthcoming series, which will be heading to HBO in 2027.
Additionally, earlier this week, more cast members were confirmed with Rory Wilmot set to play Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
