Harvey Weinstein reportedly hospitalised with heart failure
Disgraced former film executive and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein has reportedly been hospitalised.
Weinstein was being held in Rikers Island prior to the hospitalisation after being found guilty of raping Miriam Haley in 2006, and could face up to 25 years in prison for the assault. He is currently awaiting sentence in Rikers Island.
Additionally, he faces a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted of rape in California during a 2022 trial, which he is appealing.
Per TMZ, Weinstein “experienced heart failure due to pneumonia” around two weeks ago, which was the cause of his hospitalisation. They report that he’s now receiving medical help at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan.
A representative for Weinstein told Deadline that he was suffering with “severe breathing issues” and is “resting and recovering at hospital where he will stay at least for the next few weeks”.
TMZ also states that Weinstein is currently hooked to an IV drip and has been given antibiotics for his pneumonia which has improved his condition, but he has not yet made a full recovery.
Last week, it was confirmed that Weinstein will not face a new trial after a rape case ended in a mistrial in May.
Weinstein was previously found guilty of raping the accuser Jessica Mann during a 2020 trial, but the decision was later overturned on the grounds that it wasn’t deemed to be a fair trial.
At the retrial in 2025, the jury failed to reach a verdict in relation to Mann’s allegations, which caused the re-trial this year.
Earlier this week, Cara Delevigne appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast and revealed that Weinstein told her to hide her sexuality, telling her, “‘You’ll never make it in the industry if people think you’re gay,” which she “really took to heart.”
