Harvey Weinstein attacks brother Bob Weinstein for allegedly stealing money in new lawsuit
Film producer and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein has filed a lawsuit against his brother Bob Weinstein, who he has accused of illegally taking funds from The Weinstein Company prior to it filing for bankruptcy.
Bob, alongside former company COO and president David Glasser, are being accused of diverting funds for their own personal financial gain, which would redirect some of the blame from Harvey Weinstein for the collapse of the company in 2017 following the first string of assault allegations against the producer.
Weinstein has declared that the two defendants, along with others who were previously involved in the company, were responsible for what he deems to be “financial betrayal.” This comes in response to a lawsuit filed against Weinstein in November 2017 by AI International Holdings, which accused him of failing to repay a $45 million loan.
The original lawsuit was put on hold in 2018 after the Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy, and was dismissed by mutual agreement in 2023 after AI International Holdings declared it would not be possible to collect their debt from Weinstein while he serves a prison sentence.
This is not the first instance of Bob being on the receiving end of legal action from his brother. In November 2024, Bob received a subpoena from his brother in pursuit of a deposition and the transfer of documents relating to the AI International Holdings lawsuit. Bob’s lawyers filed a countersuit to quash the subpoena, stating that his brother’s claims were without merit.
The new accusations against Bob Weinstein assert that Harvey Weinstein was left solely responsible for the repayment of the $45 million debt because of the mishandling of funds by his brother and Glasser.
Harvey Weinstein is due in court again in April for a retrial on his rape charges in Manhattan following a court overturn of his initial conviction. He is currently serving a 16-year sentence as a result of his Los Angeles rape trial.
