Hans Zimmer to compose original score for HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ series

Hans Zimmer has been confirmed to create an original score for the new Harry Potter series on HBO.

Zimmer will compose the music alongside his Bleeding Fingers Music collective, which he founded in 2013.

In a joint statement, Zimmer and Bloody Fingers Music composers Kara Talve and Anže Rozman said of the project, “The musical legacy of Harry Potter is a touch point for composers everywhere and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team on a project of this magnitude.”

They continued, “The responsibility is something that myself, Kara Talve and Anže Rozman do not take lightly. Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach, but as in the world of Harry Potter, you simply must look for it. With this score we hope to bring audiences that little bit closer to it whilst honoring what has come before.”

Production is currently underway on the HBO adaptation, which will arrive in 2027. Each Harry Potter book will be turned into its own television series, beginning with the first instalment, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Dominic McLaughlin will star as the titular character. He will be joined in the series by Arabella Stanton, who will play Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout, who will take over as Ron Weasley.

The cast also includes Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Luke Fallon as Quirinus Quirrell.

Zimmer’s most recent project was scoring F1, which secured him a Golden Globe nomination in the ‘Best Original Score – Motion Picture’ category.

The award was won by Ludwig Goransson for his work on Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. However, it was not shown during the televised broadcast, which angered Zimmer. “I think the work should always be acknowledged… This year is a fantastic year for composers — don’t ignore them, you don’t have a movie without them,” he said on the red carpet.
