Golden Globes 2026: Hans Zimmer slams decision to cut ‘Best Original Score’ from live broadcast
Hans Zimmer took aim at the organisers of the Golden Globes for cutting the award for ‘Best Original Score – Motion Picture’ from the television broadcast.
The renowned film composer was speaking on the red carpet at the ceremony, where he blasted the decision to axe the category from broadcast in favour of the likes of ‘Best Podcast’, and instead presented the prize during a commercial break.
Zimmer had been nominated in the category for his work on F1, ultimately losing out on taking home the prize to Ludwig Göransson’s score on Sinners. However, prior to the ceremony, he spoke out for his fellow composers and the fact that they were not receiving the recognition that they should.
“I think it’s a shame not to honour those people — my friends — who work so hard to become a voice,” he told Variety, adding, “As a person who has been making films forever, everybody who works on a film works their utmost, doesn’t get any sleep, there are no weekends.”
Zimmer said: “I think the work should always be acknowledged… This year is a fantastic year for composers — don’t ignore them, you don’t have a movie without them.”
Continuing his campaign of speaking out against the decision to cut the category from the televised ceremony, the composer also told Deadline: “It feels a little bit ignorant. We are the psychological underbelly of the whole thing.”
Göransson’s winning of the award not being broadcast was met with similar outrage from fans on social media, as they missed out on seeing the horror film pick up one of its two wins out of six total nominations on the night.
The film also took home the award for ‘Cinematic and Box Office Achievement’, but missed out on its other nods, including ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’ and ‘Best Director – Motion Picture’ for Ryan Coogler.
Elsewhere during the ceremony, the frontrunners for the night included One Battle After Another, which took home four awards, while Timothée Chalamet and Jessie Buckley won the major acting prizes in the film categories.
