Golden Globes 2026: Timothée Chalamet wins ‘Best Actor – Comedy or Musical’
At the 83rd annual Golden Globes, Timothée Chalamet took home the award for ‘Best Actor – Comedy or Musical’ for his portrayal of power-hungry ping-pong maestro Marty Mauser in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme.
The role has been a passion project for the New Yorker over the past seven years, who recently revealed that he travelled everywhere with a ping-pong table: “Everything I was working on, it was this secret: I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi.”
The other contenders in the ‘Best Actor – Musical or Comedy’ category included: Ethan Hawke, for Blue Moon; George Clooney, for Jay Kelly; Jesse Plemons, for Bugonia; Lee Byung-Hun for No Other Choice; and Leonardo DiCaprio, for One Battle After Another.
Taking to the stage to accept the prize, Chalamet expressed his gratitude, declaring, “This category is stacked. I look up to all of you, thank you… To Josh Safdie, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for this role. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for this portrait, for your mind, for your worldview.”
Chalamet also won the Critics’ Choice Award for his role in Marty Supreme; during his acceptance speech, he thanked his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, for her support: “Thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you, I couldn’t do this without you.”
He used this opportunity to thank her again, “I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments didn’t make this moment that much sweeter for my parents, for my partner, I love you.”
This win marks another important step in Chalamet’s career towards his pursuit of greatness. At the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards, Chalamet was honest about his career goals: “I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.”
Marty Supreme enjoyed its world premiere on October 6th at the New York Film Festival during a surprise screening.
The movie was introduced by Safdie and Chalamet before co-stars, including Tyler, the Creator and Gwyneth Paltrow, appeared following the movie.
