Haim release new single ‘Everybody’s Trying To Figure Me Out’
Haim have released their new single, ‘Everybody’s Trying To Figure Me Out’ from the trio’s upcoming fourth studio album which is yet to be given a title or release date.
The single is the second to be teased from their new material after the previously released ‘Relationships’, which marked their first single since their 2023’s ‘Home’.
‘Everybody’s Trying To Figure Me Out’ is about “feeling misunderstood” and takes on a more considered, contemplative tone than the previous single as Danielle Haim navigates pressures in uncertain situations.
“I feel like I might live inside of everyone’s thoughts,” she sings, “I wish I could slow the tape down to the point where everything stops / Everybody’s tryna figure me out now / And I don’t know why.”
Danielle continues on the track: “Renters’ rights, squatters’ rights / I’ll be the gatekeeper for the rest of my life / I don’t want your charity / Spend a night in the cold if it keeps me free.”
Discussing the track on social media, the singer said she began writing the song after suffering from a panic attack the night they got home from tour. Even though she felt happy, the loneliness terrified her, eventually inspiring the song.
“After a lot of reflecting, I realised I’ve let a lot of people try and tell me how I should live my life, but I realised in making everyone else happy, I lost myself,” she wrote, saying that she wrote the track “as a way to believe in myself again and quit being scared to do what I want”.
She also said that the track is her “favourite song” they have written in the past couple of years, likely because it stems from personal experience and helped her through “some hard times”. She added: “We felt this might be of some use to get our vibes right for this summer!”
Details surrounding the trio’s forthcoming album has been kept considerably under wraps aside from various hints towards style, sound, and direction. For instance, they recently revealed that they were heading towards featuring a sample of George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ’90’ for a track called ‘Gone’.
Elsewhere, the trio have also been added to a handful of festival lineups for 2025, including Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Primavera Sound.
