Guitars from Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr set for new London exhibition
A new exhibition displaying life-sized images of rock and roll’s most iconic guitars, from the likes of Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, and Johnny Marr, is set to open in London.
Scale, the brainchild of Australian music photographer Kane Hibberd, will be on display at Unlocked in Shoreditch from June 12th until August 31st, 2025. It will take the most intimate look at the world’s most famous songs and the guitars that shaped them.
Since 2011, Hibberd has been curating the collection by speaking to artists and being allowed to photograph their most precious instrument in its original scale, giving fans the most detailed glimpse into their prized possession.
Over 100 guitars are featured in the exhibit, with some of the other biggest names including Dave Grohl’s Gibson Trini Lopez, Joan Jett’s gig worn Melody Maker, and Kevin Parker’s psychedelic Rickenbacker.
A photograph of each guitar will be paired with a personal story from the artist themselves regarding the instrument, revealing an in-depth and never-before-seen level of intimacy for fans fascinated by the rock world.
After guarding his work preparing for the exhibit in years of secrecy, Hibberd revealed: “This has been an incredible journey, a real labour of love. It feels like a lot of photography is now created and consumed within a short amount of time. I wanted to work on something that took years, rather than days or weeks and keep it all offline.”
He added: “The people I’ve met, the stories I’ve heard and the places I’ve wound up in has been an absolute odyssey and I’m so glad to be finally sharing it with the world. The original idea dates back to 2011. It took a long time and wasn’t easy but nothing worthwhile ever is!”
Tickets for Scale: A Photographic Exhibition are on sale now.
