Grimes has announced that her latest single is in response to overcoming Azealia Banks’ failed attempts to destroy her life.
The Canadian musician was performing as part of the Australian virtual reality festival Splendour XR and debuted several new tracks.
During her performance of ‘100 Percent Tragedy’, Grimes explained that the song was about “having to defeat Azealia Banks when she tried to destroy my life.”
It is believed that this feud goes back to 2018 when Banks allegedly spent days at Elon Musk’s house and made accusations against the space-faring business tycoon on social media.
Upon hearing about Grimes’ comments, Banks responded by saying: “Grimes def has some psychosexual obsession with me.”
She then later added on a now-deleted Instagram story: “[Sic] I think it’s bitterness cuz she doesn’t have the musical capacity I have. Everything she does is out of pretentiousness and it comes out like that … while everything I do is out of natural swag & geniusness lmaoo.”
Before taking aim at the platform for the festival’s broadcast itself, stating: “Starting to notice all the weird undercover millennial racists hide out on Discord.”
The world now patiently awaits Azealia Banks’ response track.
