Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong has provided another glorious cover, taking on John Lennon song ‘Gimme Some Truth’.
Throughout the quarantine, Armstrong has treated his fans to a host of covers as part of his No Fun Monday’s series ranging from his take on Kim Wilde’s ‘Kids In America’, Tiffany’s ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ and ‘Manic Monday’ by The Bangles.
Armstrong has decided to change up his ‘No Fun Monday’ series by replacing it with ‘No Fun Hump Day’ and has begun the re-launched cover series with an incredible version of John Lennon’s iconic ‘Gimme Some Truth’.
Sharing his cover of the track on Instagram, Armstrong wrote: “Welcome to no fun Monday hump day.. this song was written by John Lennon. The first time I heard it was from one of my all time faves Generation X”.
When he’s not been concocting covers of classic tracks, Armstrong has also been working up ideas for new Green Day material. He recently told Kerrang!: “I had all these melodies in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on,” he said.
“I don’t know when I can get together with Mike [Dirnt, bass] and Tré [Cool, drums], but I told them to make sure that they’re quarantined for now, and then I hope down the road we can get back in the studio with [Father Of All… producer] Butch Walker.”
