Grammys 2025: The Rolling Stones win ‘Best Rock Album’ for ‘Hackney Diamonds’
At the Grammys in Los Angeles, The Rolling Stones were awarded ‘Best Rock Album’ for their most recent record, Hackney Diamonds.
The veteran rockers were up against strong competition in the stacked category, including from acts such as Fontaines DC with Romance, as well as recent releases from Jack White, Pearl Jam, Green Day and Idles.
The Rolling Stones have a long history with the Grammys. The musical legends were first nominated for an award in 1978 for ‘Album of the Year’ with Beggars Banquet. However, it took until 1987 for the band to receive their first award, a ‘Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award’.
Since then, they were awarded ‘Best Music Video’ for ‘Love Is Strong’ in 1995, and that same year, they were also victorious in the ‘Best Rock Album’ category for Voodoo Lounge. It took 23 years for The Rolling Stones to win another Grammy, which was in 2018 when they received the prize for ‘Best Traditional Blues Album’ with Blue and Lonesome.
Although they have won ‘Best Rock Album’ with Hackney Diamonds, they missed out in 2024 when the lead single was nominated for ‘Best Rock Song’. This year, the same award was given to St Vincent for ‘Broken Man‘.
In a three-star review, Far Out wrote of Hackney Diamonds: “It’s impossible not to get a kick out of these elder statesmen of rock and roll putting their best collective foot forward to see what remains of their creativity. You can call Hackney Diamonds whatever you want, but you have to call it a success.”
