Grammys 2025: St Vincent wins ‘Best Rock Song’ for ‘Broken Man’

St Vincent has added to her Grammys haul with a victory in the ‘Best Rock Song’ category for ‘Broken Man’ and ‘Best Alternative Rock Performance’ with ‘Flea’.

The singer-songwriter, real name Annie Clark, has a longlasting history with America’s most prestigious awards ceremony. She won her first Grammy in 2015 in the ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ for St Vincent, then four years later, Clark was victorious in the ‘Best Rock Song’ category for ‘Masseducation’. More recently, St Vincent won ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ in 2022 for Daddy’s Home.

This year, Clark was also nominated for ‘Best Rock Performance’ with Broken Man. Meanwhile, her latest album, All Born Screaming, was shortlisted for ‘Best Alternative Rock Album’.

Far Out’s review of All Born Screaming noted: “Forgoing personas and external producers, All Born Screaming is St.Vincent in her purest form. It’s just a shame that, sometimes, that form is shrouded in busy soundscapes and straightforward rock.”

Significantly, ‘Broken Man’ also featured Dave Grohl on drums. Recruiting Grohl to appear in her music was a dream come true for Clark, who told The New Cue: “I have a couple of favourite moments. One would be having Dave Grohl come over to my studio.”

She added: “The second he kicks in on the first chorus of ‘Flea’, it’s just mind-blowing, my whole musical life flashes before my eyes and lightning up my spine, he just set me on fire. It’s so exciting to hear him play and he’s playing on one of my songs, what?! So that would be one.”

Earlier this week, Clark repaid the favour by performing with Nirvana at their surprise reunion at the KIA Forum as part of FireAid on January 30th. Alongside Joan Jett, Kim Gordon and Violet Grohl, Clark fronted Nirvana, she previously also provided lead vocal duty for the band at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2014.
