Gracie Abrams acknowledges nepo baby advantage: “I had a safety net”

Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams has spoken about being a nepo baby, admitting she “had a safety net” due to her parents.

Abrams, who is now one of the biggest stars in the music industry and is selling out arenas across the world, is the daughter of Star Wars director JJ Abrams and Bad Robot’s Katie McGrath. Her grandparents were also in the entertainment industry.

Now, Abrams has spoken about the advantages of coming from a background that has connections to the entertainment world, telling the New York Times’ Popcast, “The nepo stuff is obviously in the discourse, appropriately.”

From a personal perspective, she added, “I think about the privilege there, and it’s like, I had a safety net, and that allowed me the ability to experiment, and concentrate, and I had the gift of time to dedicate to doing this thing I loved.”

The ‘That’s So True’ singer stated that she “wasn’t growing up afraid financially”, which she admits is “the biggest deal” for any aspiring artist.

Growing up within the entertainment bubble, with her parents in the industry “as long as I’ve been alive”, was another benefit that Abrams highlighted, adding, “Like the way that you overhear your family talking about anything, like at the dinner table or in the car on the way to school, there is just this vocabulary that I was so lucky to grow up with.”

Abrams then said on the ongoing debate surrounding nepotism in the music industry, “When I see people pointing that out, it’s like: I get it, hardcore. The jokes and things, I also understand. I’m like, ‘Go crazy.'”

Her new album, Daughter from Hell, is set for release on July 17th. The new record, set to arrive on July 17th through Interscope Records, has seen Abrams team up with The National’s Aaron Dessner, who has co-written and co-produced the project.

Following the album release, she will head out on The Look At My Life Tour, which will kick off at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, on December 2nd, and keep Abrams on the road until May 28th, 2027, when it will finish up at Palau Saint Jordi in Barcelona, Spain.

In the UK, Abrams will take to the stage for two nights at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, three nights at the Co-op Live in Manchester, and four nights at the O2 Arena in London. In Ireland, Abrams will play two dates at the 3Arena.
