Gorillaz share new song ‘Friday 13th’ featuring Octavian

Gorillaz have released the next track from their ‘Song Machine’ project in a new collaboration with Octavian.

The band took to Twitter to reveal that the next instalment of Song Machine – Season One, Episode Four – features the French-born London raised rapper who won the BBC’s Sound of 2019 award.

Song Machine has seen the iconic act team up with a range of artists from different worlds ranging from the likes of Peter Hook to Skepta to Georgia to slowthai. The series kicked off with ‘Momentary Bliss’ with slowthai and Slaves in January, since then we’ve also seen them work with. The virtual band has also released collaborations with Fatoumata Diawara and more.

Discussing the song, band member Russel Hobbs said: “Every day starts in the dark, and ends in the dark, but in the middle there is light,” when introducing the material.

The comments echo a previously released statement from the group: “Gorillaz are enraged at the death of George Floyd and many before him at the hands of systemic racism and police brutality,” the band previously said in statement. “It’s time to be the change and play an active part in the fight for justice and equality. ⁣White supremacy must end. ⁣Black Lives Matter.⁣”
