Glenn Powell to star in Barry Jenkins’ new sci-fi movie ‘The Natural Order’

Barry Jenkins has lined up Glenn Powell for his next project, a sci-fi thriller called The Natural Order.

The project is set to be based on a new novel by Matt Aldrich, which is yet to be released. However, despite the book not yet hitting the shelves, a deal was reportedly signed off last week. It will be Jenkins’ follow-up to Mufasa: The Lion King and a change of direction for the filmmaker.

Both Jenkins and Powell dominated the box office in 2024. Mufasa: The Lion King was one of the most successful movies from a commercial standpoint, earning more than $700 million. Meanwhile, Powell brought rom-coms back into fashion with Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney and also starred in Twisters.

Powell has a variety of upcoming projects that are currently in the pipeline as he continues his ascent to the top of Hollywood.

The Anyone But You star will also appear in Edgar Wright’s Running Man. Earlier this week, the director told Empire of the film: “It does feel like making a road movie in a lot of ways: a very intense, dangerous road movie”.

Wright also stated the cinematography would pay tribute to King’s original expansive dystopian world as “one of the things about the book that I loved was the fact that Ben Richards (Powell’s character) is out in the world on his own, so it’s like the deadliest game of hide and seek.”

Additionally, Powell is set to star in John Patton Ford’s Huntington, John Lee Hancock’s Monsanto, the sci-fi movie Homewreckers, the Hulu series Chad Power and also an untitled JJ Abrams project along with Jenna Ortega.
