Glastonbury 2024: headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay and more confirmed
Glastonbury Festival has announced the bulk of its 2024 lineup with the arrival of the first poster. The festival will run from June 26th to 30th and will be held at Worthy Farm, Pilton, as usual. This year’s event now has its headliners with pop star Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA all set to take on the Pyramid Stage.
Last year, Glastonbury enjoyed its biggest year to date, with nearly a quarter of a million in attendance. The headline acts for 2023 were Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses and Elton John.
Meanwhile, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi, Cat Stevens, Blondie, Lana Del Rey and Fred Again.. took major slots throughout the weekend’s festivities. Last year’s poster also listed a band named The Churnups in a prominent position on the Pyramid Stage. Some connected that it was a codename for Pulp; however, when the day came, Dave Grohl led Foo Fighters onto the stage.
This year, the festival poster unveils four headline acts: Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA and Shania Twain. Directly beneath these pop-orientated selections are some slightly more alternative picks, including LCD Soundsystem, Little Simz, Burna Boy and PJ Harvey.
For all the indie kids out there, the lineup boasts some established favourites, such as Idles, The National, The Streets, Two Door Cinema Club, Fontaines DC and Sleaford Mods.
As ever, Emily Eavis and the team have booked plenty of electronic acts to keep the hips shaking into the wee hours. This year, Disclosure head up the Other Stage, with other electronic highlights coming from Jamie XX, Justice and Orbital.
The official notice from Glastonbury states that “many more acts and attractions” are still to be announced. While tickets for this year’s festival are officially sold out, those still hoping to attend can enter a prize draw for a chance to get a hold of 20 pairs of tickets.
Last year, a male-heavy lineup caused a stir among some festival-goers. Responding to the controversy, the festival manager, Emily Eavis, explained that they had tried to keep the male-to-female ratio as equal as possible and strive to provide a platform for rising female talent.
“I’ve always been really passionate about gender split, and I think, actually, our problem was that I’d been so outspoken about it that having a year where there wasn’t a female sent people a bit mad, or some people,” Eavis said in a statement in October 2023.
Continuing, she noted that they initially booked a female headliner for the Saturday night slot on the Pyramid Stage in 2023, but they pulled out, leaving the team to find a last-minute replacement. Fortunately, Guns N’ Roses were available.
“It is difficult with female artists because there aren’t enough headliners. But we’re also creating them. We’re putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time, so I feel like the pool is going to be bigger soon. And who knows? Next year, we might get two… And certainly, I can say that the legend is female,” Eavis concluded.
As we see in the new lineup poster below, Eavis has stayed true to her word.
