Glastonbury 2025: Watch St Vincent open her set with the theatrical ‘Broken Man’
St Vincent proved she’s truly an artist of a generation during her third performance at Glastonbury Festival, playing a theatrical version of ‘Broken Man’ to an increasingly impressed crowd.
St Vincent is the stage name of Annie Clark, known for her art-rock experimentalism. Clark has won multiple Grammy Awards, including ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ in 2015; a decade later, she proves herself no less relevant on the Woodsies Stage.
The artist won the Grammy for ‘Best Rock Song’ for her monumental hit ‘Broken Man’. She sung it as if her heart were in her throat, bursting forth into the microphone. “Who the hell do you think I am!” She cried, the crowd enraptured by her every move.
Perhaps the most daring moment came when she decided not to close out her performance with the track but open proceedings with it, setting the tone for what was to come.
“From the beginning of the song, it’s a slow-burn,” Clark told previously NME of the song. “The shape of the song is climbing the mountain, because it just grows and grows. There are essentially three drummers on the track: the first part is my programming, the second part Mark Guiliana comes in, and then at the very end of the track – just when you think it can’t get any higher – Grohl comes in with this absolute reckless spirit and just takes it to the edge.”
Friday night at Glastonbury saw The 1975 headline the Pyramid Stage and Loyle Carner headline the Other Stage. On Saturday night, Charli XCX, Neil Young, Scissor Sisters and Doechii headlined each of the main stages. On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo will close the weekend.
