Glastonbury 2025: Watch John Fogerty perform ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’
Rock legend and Hall of Famer John Fogerty performed the classic ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain’ to a merry Saturday afternoon crowd at Glastonbury Festival.
Fogerty performed at Glastonbury once before, on June 23rd, 2007. At that time, he wasn’t allowed to do encores because of the late hour, but he went on stage anyway and played ‘Rockin’ All Over the World’.
Despite being almost two decades later, the musician brought the same energy to his Saturday afternoon set on the Pyramid Stage, which saw The 1975 headline the night before in a typically divisive fashion.
As usual, Fogerty played a mix of his solo offerings and classics from his swamp rock band, Creedence Clearwater Revival. When Fogerty played his most popular song, ‘Have You Ever Seen The Rain,’ the crowd was ready to show the musician that he deserved to rock the festival even more at the age of 80 and beyond.
“Someone told me long ago, there’s a calm before the storm,” Fogerty sang, with the crowd joining in loudly with the responsive third line, “I know, it’s been coming for some time!” This was more fitting than most other contexts, as a biblical bout of rain opened the festival on Thursday, before mostly dispersing for the rest of the weekend.
Though a simple song from the outside, Fogerty has previously revealed the hidden depth behind the lyrics to the song. “That song is really about the impending breakup of Creedence,” he said. “The imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time. The band was breaking up. I was reacting, ‘Geez, this is all getting serious right at the time when we should be having a sunny day.’”
Fogerty’s earlier set on Saturday comes after a jam-packed Friday line-up, including the likes of The 1975, Loyle Carner, Biffy Clyro, Alanis Morissette, and a secret set which turned out to be Lewis Capaldi. Other acts performing at Glastonbury include CMAT, Raye, Charli XCX, Neil Young, Amyl and the Sniffers, and Turnstile.
