Glastonbury 2024: Watch Dua Lipa close triumphant set with ‘Houdini’
To close her historic headline set at Glastonbury Festival, Dua Lipa performed hit single ‘Houdini’ to a gigantic audience, who had all flocked to see her and joined her in heady unison for every song. It was the perfect track to close her set with.
Dua Lipa has enjoyed an immensely successful 2024 so far. In May, she released her hit third album, Radical Optimism, which debuted atop the UK Albums Chart. ‘Houdini’ was the lead single of the record, and as one of her best-loved recent efforts, featuring a profoundly atmospheric electronic character, it went down a storm on the Pyramid Stage and was fitting to bring down the curtain on such a triumphant evening. It was a highlight of the 28-year-old’s emphatic set, which was brimming with fan favourites, such as ‘Levitating’ and ‘Don’t Start Now’.
Elsewhere in the performance, Dua Lipa brought on one of her new album’s co-producers, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. Together, they performed a duet of his band’s 2015 effort ‘The Less I Know The Better’, which was also received with raucous rounds of applause.
During the early stages of her extensive headline set on Friday, Dua Lipa took a moment to discuss her journey from young dreamer to headline act. She could not believe that her dreams had become a reality and that her specific manifestation of headlining on a Friday night had materialised. Soaking up this significant career moment, she espoused heartfelt gratitude and wonder at her present status.
“It’s a lot innit; it’s a lot to take in. Can we put the house lights up? I wanna see everybody. Oh man, this is a massive, massive, massive dream come true for me,” she said, taking a break after her first few songs. “I have written this moment down, I have wished for it, I’ve dreamt it, I’ve worked so hard in the hopes that maybe one day I’ll get to do it, and I can’t believe I’m here. And it feels so good, it feels so good to be up here with you guys.”
She explained that when she wrote the dream down as a young musician, she had been precise about headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Friday so she could party for the next two days, safe in the knowledge that her work was done at “the best place on Earth”. She continued: “I don’t wanna let this moment pass me by, I feel so grateful.”
The headliner noted that people might not believe in manifestation, but asserted, “One thing that’s undeniable is magic, ‘coz when I look out at you guys, that’s what I feel, and this is, this is as close as it gets.” The ‘One Kiss’ singer added, “It means the world to me, thank you so much.” She then introduced her band.
Following Dua Lipa’s headline set on Friday night, Coldplay takes the slot on Saturday, with SZA closing the festival on Sunday night. Far Out is one the ground throughout the entire festival.
