Glastonbury 2024: Watch Dua Lipa stun the Pyramid Stage with ‘Levitating’

During her highly-anticipated headline performance at Glastonbury Festival, contemporary pop icon Dua Lipa performed a scintillating rendition of 2020’s global hit, ‘Levitating’, blowing the Pyramid Stage audience away.

Dua Lipa has enjoyed a widely successful 2024. In May, she released her third album, Radical Optimism, the follow-up to 2020’s Future Nostalgia. Producing the hit singles ‘Houdini’, ‘Training Season’ and ‘Illusion’, it was co-produced by Danny L Harle, Ian Kirkpatrick, Andrew Wyatt and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, adding an eclectic neo-psychedelic feel to her sound.

Debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart, Radical Optimism secured the biggest opening week for a British female artist in three years in the country. The record solidified her status as a modern pop icon and one of the country’s most successful musical exports this century.

While Dua Lipa played a set brimming with classic anthems, including singles from Radical Optimism, her version of 2020’s ‘Levitating’, which originally featured American rapper DaBaby, sent the crowd wild with its infectious melody and electro-disco rhythm. The anthemic chorus triumphantly echoed across the field as the Londoner stormed through her set, which will not only go down as one of the highlights of this year but an undeniably significant moment in her career.

The vocalist has a long history with Glastonbury and has previously performed on the John Peel Stage in 2016 and 2017. Ahead of the performance, co-organiser Emily Eavis told Radio 2 that she feels the popstar was “born” to take the step up and headline the expansive musical celebration.

“I’m looking forward to Dua Lipa tonight, you know, I feel like she’s really born to do this,” Eavis told BBC Radio 2. “She’s a proper festivalgoer, she comes every year and… you can really tell whether someone really gets the festival and loves it.”

A highlight of the festival’s first official day saw esteemed performance artist Marina Ambramović stun the crowd before PJ Harvey’s set on the Pyramid Stage with a seven-minute silence. Titling the “public intervention” Seven Minutes of Collective Silence, it was embarked upon to make revellers ruminate on the bleak state the world currently finds itself in. It provided a crucial break from the hedonism in aid of something much more profound.

Glastonbury Festival runs from June 26th until June 30th, and Far Out is on the ground at Worthy Farm to provide coverage directly. This year’s event is headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
