Ghost announce the global release of their first concert movie
Ghost have announced the global release of their first-ever concert movie, Rite Here Rite Now, which will document the band’s two sold-out shows in Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.
The film will also include a combination of the two nights’ final performances, alongside a narrative story that follows on from their hugely popular long-running YouTube series.
As part of the announcement post on the band’s Instagram, they included a teaser reel adorned with their trademark gothic design followed by the caption: “haunting cinemas worldwide”.
Directed by Alex Ross Perry, Rite Here Rite Now has been teased by the band’s frontman and creator Tobias Forge for several months, who announced last year that the new movie was in the works.
He added that the new film will be unique as it will include an interwoven story, adding a new and exciting layer to the concert movie genre.
“We were essentially shooting a film,” Forge told Metal Hammer, adding: “And we used two nights of crowds as extras…It’s going to be a film with a concert element. So a lot of what you experienced [at the two LA shows] is going to be part of this project.”
He continued: “When I first started putting it together, I was, like, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to faint because there’s so much to think about’. Then it was, like, ‘No, no, just don’t think about it at all.’”
Both of the shows were special as they were device-free experiences, meaning that use of phones and smartwatches were prohibited while the band was performing on stage. As attendees entered the building, they were required to secure their devices in pouches, but they weren’t able to retrieve them until the end of the show.
Discussing this approach, Forge admitted he had “never seen a crowd interact the way that they did since I was in a club band,” adding that they were “the best shows I’ve ever done with Ghost, just because I didn’t have to see those fucking mobile phones.”
Rite Here Rite Now will hit cinemas globally on June 20th and 22nd only.
