Rapper Ghetts jailed for 12 years over fatal hit-and-run

Rapper Ghetts has been jailed for over a decade after being convicted of death by dangerous driving.

The 41-year-old grime MC (real name Justin Clarke-Samuel) pleaded guilty in December to killing 20-year-old Yubin Tamang.

He also admitted to a second charge of dangerous driving, while facing two further charges of driving while over the legal alcohol limit and dangerous driving.

According to Sky News, the judge sentenced him to 12 years behind bars on March 3rd.

The fatal hit-and-run took place on October 18th, 2025. Ghetts was accused of going 60mph in a 30mph zone when he hit Tamang as he was crossing the road in Ilford.

On behalf of Ghetts, Benjamin Aina KC stated the rapper wanted to apologise to “the family of Mr Tamang, the community at large, to his own family, and to the court for his actions on that Saturday night of October last year.”

In a letter, Ghetts said, “I write from a place of extreme regret, shame and remorse… I cannot express the enormous feeling of guilt and shame for the suffering I have caused. I want Mr Tamang’s family to know that I am so truly sorry. I offer no excuses, and I have let my family and community down.”

Speaking in court, Tamang’s mother explained, “We feel extreme pain and an unimaginable sense of loss. What we have felt is something that we have to endure. My son had dreamed of further education and had come to the UK. He wanted to gain a degree from here because it is well recognised in the world.”

She added, “Unfortunately, this tragic event happened near our home while he was returning home from work.”
