Getdown Services announce second album, ‘Massive Champion’, with addictive new single
Bristol duo Getdown Services have announced their second album, Massive Champion, set for release on August 14th via Breakfast Records.
Following up their 2023 cult classic debut, Crisps, the musical duo have celebrated the announcement with the release of the second song from the project, ‘I Can’t Die Like That’.
The new track, accompanied by a new music video, pairs their quintessential British charm with a scuzzy guitar hook and tackles toxicity face-on: the song is “about clinging on to feelings that comfort you but aren’t necessarily healthy,” the duo explained.
The announcement follows Getdown Services’ debut appearance on Later… with Jools Holland earlier this week. They performed single ‘The Radiator’, another one of ‘Massive Champion’s’ thirteen expansive, evocative tracks.
Josh Law and Ben Sadler wrote the new project in green rooms, on long car journeys, and in the gaps between a relentless tour schedule, which has recently seen them support the likes of Viagra Boys at London’s huge Alexandra Palace.
In the band’s words, the album is “about self pity and realising that maybe all of the healing your inner child stuff you hear about isn’t actually total bollocks. Musically and lyrically I think it’s about us trying to clean up our act a bit.”
As such, the pair promise an “odyssey of anarchic joy, seditious wit and boundless energy”.
Later this year, Getdown Services will traverse the UK and Ireland on a supporting tour, kicking off in Cardiff on November 19th and stopping at destinations such as Brighton, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, and London.
Before the tour, the pair will make appearances at plenty of festivals, such as Latitude, Green Man, Truck Festival, Metldown Festival, and more.
