Gene Simmons admits recent car crash was “totally my fault”
Kiss’ Gene Simmons has accepted the blame for a car crash in Malibu, which took place in October.
Simmons, who was recently celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors on December 7th by President Donald Trump along with Kiss, was involved in the incident on October 7th.
His Lincoln Navigator crashed into a parked car in Malibu at around 1pm local time on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, with Simmons explaining to them that he had accidentally crashed into the parked car after losing his consciousness, which he has now said was due to dehydration.
In a new interview with the New York Post, Simmons admitted, “Totally my fault. That day I had meetings from 7am until late at night … I didn’t drink water the whole day. And I drank a lot of coffee. It’s called dehydration. You know, big word – like gymnasium.”
He continued, “Everything’s fine, heart’s fine. They closed down the highway. It was crazy.”
On the day of the incident, Simmons’ wife, Shannon Tweed, told NBC 4 Los Angeles that doctors recently changed his medications and medical professionals have informed him that he needs to drink more water, which he failed to do on the day of the crash.
The day after the crash, Simmons reassured fans that he was “completely fine” and described himself as a “horrible” driver.
Notably, this is not the first time in recent years that Simmons has found himself in danger due to a lack of water.
In 2023, at a concert in Brazil with Kiss on their farewell tour, he needed to take a break, and later admitted it because he “experienced weakness because of dehydration.” Simmons added on social media at the time, “We stopped for about five minutes, I drank some water, and then all was well.”
In the same interview with the New York Post, Simmons opened up about the recent death of his Kiss bandmate Ace Frehley, who was ruled to have died after sustaining blunt trauma injuries from an accidental fall.
Simmons claimed, “He refused [advice] from people that cared about him – including yours truly – to try to change his lifestyle. In and out of bad decisions.”
He continued, “Falling down the stairs – I’m not a doctor – doesn’t kill you. There may have been other issues, and it breaks my heart. The saddest thing – you reap what you shall sow, unfortunately.”
