Geese share cover ‘You Get What You Give’ by New Radicals
Brooklyn alt-rockers Geese heated things up in the BBC Live Lounge with a cover of the classic New Radicals song, ‘You Get What You Give’.
In a clip shared on November 4th, the band can be seen covering two hits from their third studio release, Getting Killed, ‘100 Horses’ and ‘Cobra’. They followed it up with a cover of the iconic 1990s New Radicals tune, ‘You Get What You Give’.
During their first song, ‘100 Horses’, the band experiments with new bass effects, and drummer Max Bassin thrashes on the hi-hats with formidable gusto. As they eventually take on the New Radicals tune, frontman Cameron Winter switches his guitar out for the keys, singing the catchy refrain, “You’ve got the music in you / Don’t let go.”
Earlier in October, the band wowed fans with another live performance, this time on Jimmy Kimmel Live. During their late-night performance, the band performed their piano-heavy ironic ‘Taxes’ with gusto, with Winter singing the now-famous lines, “If you want me to pay my taxes, you’re going to have to nail me down”.
Getting Killed was Far Out‘s ‘Album of the Week’, receiving an admirable four-and-a-half-star review. Far Out observed, “An insecurity that’s usually been protected by slacker-rock humour seems to have fallen away on Getting Killed and Winter fully embraces the different flecks of his vocal timbre, not hiding its idiosyncrasies but instead embracing them.”
It continued: “The result of which is a heightened humanisation of the records, more tender takes, making it at times, a fitting voice for this obscure new age of indie. Somewhere between humorous, obscure and outright despondent, he, along with the rest of this band, has become a bastion of twisted hope on Getting Killed.”
The band are currently undertaking their North American tour, alongside Racing Mount Pleasant and Dove Ellis. On November 5th, they will play a sold-out show at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, and move on to Houston, Atlanta, Asheville, and beyond.
