Fortnite to issue refunds for D4vd merchandise following murder charge

The video game Fortnite has announced it will be issuing refunds to customers who bought merchandise linked to D4vd from the platform, following the singer’s charge for murdering a 14-year-old girl.

D4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, is currently on trial for the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose dismembered body was found in the back of a Tesla registered to the singer in September last year, after she had been missing for a number of months.

Burke has pleaded not guilty to the charge, with his legal team saying, “We will vigorously defend David’s innocence” in a statement to BBC News after the first public court hearing in LA last week.

Prosecutors subsequently found that the singer had a “significant amount” of child sex abuse images stored on his iCloud account.

Meanwhile, a further report from the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner also confirmed that Rivas Hernandez’s cause of death was homicide and suffering from “multiple penetrating injuries”.

As a result of the ongoing trial, Fortnite, the platform where Burke first made his name by uploading his music to montages of his gameplay, has announced that they will be refunding customers who purchased products from a line of cosmetics they released with the singer last year.

Replying to a post on X from a player about the reported refunds, the company said on April 26th: “We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time.”

They added: “The first one will be available on Tuesday April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund. And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded.”

The singer also previously released the first official Fortnite song, ‘Locked and Loaded’, in 2025. However, since he has now been dropped by his label, Interscope Records, there is now a further push to remove all Burke’s music from streaming services such as Spotify.
