Flogging Molly frontman Dave King opens up on “miracle” recovery from brain haemorrhage

Dave King, the frontman of punk band Flogging Molly, has opened up on his “miracle” recovery from a brain injury which almost cost him his life at the start of this year.

The band previously revealed in March that King had suffered a brain haemorrhage in January, leaving him in a coma for two weeks and causing them to cancel all of their planned shows for the rest of 2025.

However, the frontman has now explained the terrifying near-fatal events in his own words, revealing that the injury occurred after he fainted on a staircase, fracturing his skull in the fall and thus causing the haemorrhage.

Recalling the episode on the BrooklynVegan Interview Podcast, King said his wife and bandmate Bridget Regan called an ambulance, which rushed him to the hospital in Wexford, Ireland, before he was transferred to Dublin due to the severity of his condition.

“They told my wife she may never see me again,” King said, adding, “[They said] if I did in fact survive, I would probably be a vegetable for the rest of my life. But I’m a talking vegetable!”

The frontman underwent multiple major brain surgeries in order to aid his recovery. When he left hospital, he claimed doctors said it was nothing short of a “miracle”.

Now with his outlook for the future looking far more positive, King noted: “It’s a great thing to be able to do, to pick up a guitar and play and even create something new from that experience. I’m getting excited about getting into a room again with my darling wife and my bandmates and working together again.”

He said he has set the goal of returning to Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise in 2026, after it set sail from the Port of Miami in February for the first time without the band on board, owing to King’s injury.

The cruise is set to sail again from October 25th to 30th, 2026, with Flogging Molly topping the bill alongside the likes of Bad Religion and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls.
