Five men arrested in hospital after stabbing at London music event
In an unusual turn of events, five men who were stabbed at a music event in Thamesmead, London, have been arrested.
At 4:19am on May 17th, police were called to the event after multiple reports of injury. Consequently, five people were taken to hospital with stab wounds, the Met Police reported.
Three of the victims have sustained injuries which should not pose a direct threat to life, while two other victims are still undergoing medical assessment.
Those in the hospital, varying from ages 21 to 32, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. There were around 300 people in total attending the event.
Detective Inspector Steven Andrews, who is leading the investigation, said: “Officers responded quickly to provide medical assistance to the five injured people alongside the London Ambulance Service and ensure the safety of around 300 people, who were at this music event. The five men who have been injured have been arrested for violent disorder and we continue to work to establish any wider involvement.”
He continued: “There will be a continued police presence on Nathan Way throughout today while we continue this investigation. We encourage anyone with any information to contact police to assist with enquiries.”
Music gatherings have made the headlines recently for instances of danger. For example, German techno DJ Paul Kalkbrenner was attacked by a crowd member during his set at Elrow Town, Madrid, on May 1st.
In this instance, fans from the front row of the large crowd can be seen in footage of the incident launching themselves over the DJ booth. He can then be seen attempting to put the 47-year-old musician in a headlock, before being restrained by Kalkbrenner’s entourage.
It has also been reported that heightened security measures are also expected at Glastonbury this year, as the festival faced criticism last year from overcrowding at certain stages, which can put festival-goers in serious danger.
