Fatal stabbing outside Phish concert leaves one dead, two injured
One person died and two more were injured in a stabbing that took place during a Phish concert at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia.
The incident took place in the parking lot of the 13,800-person capacity venue on the eve of September 19th, at a time when Phish were on the stage inside the venue.
According to the police report of the altercation, as per Rolling Stone, police were called to the scene just after 9:30pm. The suspect reportedly fled the scene, but the report stresses that “all parties involved” in the “isolated incident” have been identified. This has not yet been made official.
The American rock band addressed the fatal incident on social media shortly after their show. They began, “During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured.”
They continued, “We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”
The police report also noted that “two adult male victims [were] suffering from laceration injuries, one of which was life-threatening.” The first victim succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital. The second is “currently receiving medical treatment,” and the third “arrived at a local hospital as a walk-in, also suffering from a laceration determined to be non-life-threatening.”
The report then urged anybody with information to contact the Hampton Police Division as soon as possible.
This show marked the penultimate event in the Phish calendar, which will finish on September 21st at the same venue.
