Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman steps away from the band for the rest of the year due to serious injury
Fall Out Boy‘s guitarist, Joe Trohman, has revealed that he is stepping away from the band for the rest of the year in order to undergo hand surgery.
Trohman shared the news on social media, writing, “After years of managing ongoing issues with my right hand, it’s become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage.”
He continued, “Unfortunately, this means I’ll have to take the rest of the year off from playing with the band. The silver lining is that I’m on track for a full recovery. The band will still be playing all scheduled shows.”
Trohman clarified that he would definitely return to his duties once fully recovered. He finished, “I’m looking forward to recovering so I can get back out there with the guys. Thanks so much for the love and support.”
Trohman was temporarily replaced in early 2023 after taking a short hiatus to focus on his mental health. At that time, he was replaced on stage by Ben Young. It has not been announced if the same set-up will work in 2025.
Announcing his first hiatus, Trohman wrote, “Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years. So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.”
Their next show is set to take place at the Minnesota Yacht Club in St Paul, Minnesota. After this, the band will jet away to Tokyo to perform at Summer Sonic on August 16th. They will stop in Brazil at the end of August. Their last scheduled performance is at the Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City on September 28th.
They last toured the UK in 2023. Vocalist Patrick Stump and drummer Andy Hurley will now need to find a replacement to race through hits such as ‘Sugar, We’re Goin Down’ and ‘Thnks fr the Mmrs’.
