Ethan Hawke advises daughter Maya Hawke “don’t look back” after ‘Stranger Things’ finale

Ethan Hawke has revealed the advice he gave to his daughter, Maya Hawke, following the finale of Stranger Things, telling her “don’t look back”.

The acclaimed actor was speaking in a new interview with Variety, in which he reflected on his own career as well as that of his daughter’s, who has recently completed the epic conclusion to the Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things, where she played the role of Robin Buckley.

After the show came to a close after a decade of five series, with its final ever episode hitting the streaming platform on January 1st, Hawke revealed the advice he gave to Maya as she now finds a way to move forward with her career.

“Time to move on,” he said, before adding, “You got to do it, and move on. Don’t look back.”

When asked if he would like to work with his daughter at some point in the future, Hawke replied: “Heck yeah, are you kidding me? I want to be with the star of Stranger Things.”

The pair have worked together before previously, but with Hawke behind the camera and his daughter in front of it, when he directed her in the 2023 independent film Wildcat, which was a biographical drama depicting the life of Flannery O’Connor.

For his own part, Hawke was nominated for an Oscar last week in the coveted ‘Best Actor’ category for his role in Blue Moon. It comes a decade after his last nod at the Academy Awards, where he was recognised in the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category for Boyhood

Through all of this acclaim, Hawke has also kept himself busy with a slew of both critical and blockbuster roles throughout the course of the last year. He recently starred in the Hollywood horror sequel Black Phone 2, and is also set to feature in the 1930s historical drama The Weight.

The latter film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26th, with the actor set to star alongside Julia Jones and Russell Crowe, with direction from Padraic McKinlay.
