Emma Stone rules out playing ‘Miss Piggy’ in upcoming movie with Jennifer Lawrence

Emma Stone has ruled herself out of playing Miss Piggy in an upcoming movie she is developing with Jennifer Lawrence.

In November, Lawrence announced the news of the surprise project during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast.

She told the hosts, “I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to – Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”

Then, during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lawrence noted that there hasn’t actually been” a Miss Piggy spin-off before, which is why the project appealed to her.

The Die My Love actor also said of Stone’s involvement, “So, I started kind of producing it. But Emma Stone is the Muppet-head. Also, Emma Stone is a shark … I’m, just like, the ideas guy. So, I went to her to be like, ‘What do we do?’”

Now, Stone has lifted the lid on the film for the first time, explaining to W Magazine that she will not be portraying the iconic character.

Stone shared, “First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that. Why would I play a literal star? She’s the greatest.”

She also ruled Lawrence out of the reckoning, adding, “No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”

While the Miss Piggy movie, which was first conceived during the Covid-19 pandemic, is in the works, there is no concrete timeline regarding when it’ll arrive on screens.
