Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone to produce Miss Piggy movie

Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are teaming up to produce a movie based on the beloved Muppets character, Miss Piggy.

Hunger Games actor Lawrence announced the news on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast. Merrily, the actor shared, “I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to – Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”

Here, she refers to Cole Escola, the creator and original performer of the play Oh, Mary!, a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

Lawrence was then asked whether she would make an appearance in the film. Though no plans appear to be set in stone as of yet, the star shared, “I think so, we have to.”

Miss Piggy was deemed a background character on The Muppet Show when it was first created, but, eventually, she grew into one of the most popular characters of the series. She is famously wedded to Kermit the Frog, though their relationship appears to be on the rocks; a press release suggested that the pair had split way back in 1990, but nothing resolute has come since then.

Elsewhere, Lawrence recently stated that she is unsure about whether celebrities of her calibre speaking out politically does the political ecosystem any good. She shared, “Ask if she feels as strongly about speaking out now, Lawrence admitted, “I don’t really know if I should. The first Trump administration was so wild and just how can we let this stand? I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”

As for Stone, the actor has just appeared in the movie Bugonia, alongside Jesse Plemons. The movie follows two conspiracy-obsessed friends who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major corporation because they are convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying Earth.

The Muppets have recently marked their milestone 70th birthday.
