Emma Stone says Diane Keaton was her “North Star” and “the best ever”
Emma Stone has honoured the late Oscar-winner Diane Keaton, revealing she was her “North Star”.
Keaton died on October 11th, aged 79. Her family later confirmed that the legendary actor died due to pneumonia.
Although Stone never had the opportunity to share the screen with Keaton, she has regularly listed her as one of her greatest acting inspirations, and the pair spoke together for a cover feature in Interview Magazine in 2015.
Now, in a new interview with W Magazine, Stone has said of Keaton, “I’m getting choked up. She will always be my North Star, ultimate hero, because she taught me about not wanting to emulate anyone else, including her.”
The Oscar-winner then explained the hugely significant way that Keaton inspired her, noting, “She taught me how valuable it is to the world to realize who you are and what you can contribute.”
The Bugonia star then stated that her admiration of Keaton stretches far beyond her work in Hollywood, adding, “As a director, photographer, curator of coffee table books, a person who made wines—she was just so herself.”
Stone then declared that Keaton was a “one of a kind” and “completely Diane”, before lovingly stating of her idol, “She’s the person who really made me realize that the most valuable thing you can be is yourself, authentically. She was the best ever.”
Earlier this week, Keaton would have celebrated her 80th birthday on January 5th. As a tribute, actor Sarah Paulson, who grew close to Keaton when they worked on The Other Sister in 1999, unveiled a tattoo in honour of her late friend.
Paulson took to social media to share an image of her with Keaton, as well as unveiling a new tattoo featuring her late friend’s initials, “DK”, on her wrist.
She also captioned the emotional post, “You would have been 80 today. Too many deep feelings to put here… I was the luckiest person in the world to have traveled, laughed so hard we cried, watched a million and one movies, really cried, and eaten French fries with you.”
