‘Emily in Paris’ actor Pierre Deny dead at 69
French actor Pierre Deny has died aged 69, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease.
In a statement to French media, Deny’s daughters confirmed news of their father’s passing, which occurred on May 25th.
They told AFP (via Daily Mail), “It is with deep emotion that we announce the passing of Pierre Deny, which occurred this Monday following a sudden and severe case of ALS.”
Deny made himself known to international audiences in recent years when he portrayed luxury fashion executive Louis de Léon in the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix hit show Emily in Paris.
However, long before being cast in Emily in Paris, Deny was a prominent figure in the French entertainment world, appearing in more than 100 films and television shows.
His longest-running role was in the soap opera Tomorrow Belongs to Us, in which he appeared in more than 500 episodes between 2017 and 2024.
Sylvie Vartan has led the tributes to Deny, writing on Instagram, “I have just learned with great sadness of the passing of Pierre Deny. I shared some wonderful moments with him on stage in Isabelle Mergault’s play.”
Euphoria actor Eric Dane also lost his battle with ALS earlier this year, aged just 53. He had only announced last year that he had been diagnosed with ALS after beginning to struggle with symptoms in 2024, and entered full-time care by the end of 2025.
Additionally, A Russell Andrews, known for appearing in Better Call Saul, recently made his ALS diagnosis public as part of ALS awareness month.
The actor said of the life-altering diagnosis, “It’s been humbling, but Elex, there’s also something in the fact that I walked into a family of very caring people I did not know a year ago.”
