Ellie Goulding to perform at half-time during England vs Norway at the World Cup
Singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding will be reminding the England footballers that anything could happen during their World Cup game against Norway this Saturday, as she is set to perform at the half-time mark.
The ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer shared the news with football fans via social media, where she announced proudly, “Performing at halftime for England vs Norway has me feeling like truly anything could happen…”
After the nod to her chart-topping 2012 song, Goulding added, “I already know the boys will make England proud, it’s coming home.”
Goulding will provide musical entertainment for the crowd at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on July 11th. The match kicks off at 5pm local time, which is 10pm for those watching at home in England.
If England comes out on top, they will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the semi-finals in Atlanta, held on July 15th.
This year’s World Cup has encouraged musical accompaniment to the global tournament for the first time; notably, during the final held at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19th, the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show will take place.
The performance, curated by Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, will feature BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus and familiar faces from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
The performance, along with the competition as a whole, is set to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, aiming to provide children around the world with access to education and football.
Goulding’s small role in the FIFA World Cup musical extravaganza comes at an exciting time in her career, as she is currently gearing up to release her sixth studio album, I Know Too Much, on September 4th. She released the first single, ‘Black Prada Dress’, last month, after it debuted at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend
“Making this album allowed me to bring everything together honestly, like journaling through music, a collection of songs that represent a certain time in my life,” Goulding explained of the 10-track project.
