Ekko Astral announce farewell shows ahead of indefinite hiatus
It’s been a tumultuous year for punk band Ekko Astral, who have now announced their indefinite hiatus alongside two farewell shows.
Earlier this year, bandleader Jael Holzman filed a peace order petition against the band’s former drummer, Miri Tyler, only a month after Tyler announced that she was stepping away from the band.
Upon announcing her exit, Tyler shared a statement which admitted, “Touring with this band has brought me to a worse place mentally than I have been in nearly 10 years.”
Soon thereafter, not two weeks after the announcement of their 2026 album, The Beltway Is Burning, Topshelf Records announced that it could “no longer support Ekko Astral and will not be releasing their album.”
Despite the chaos, the band committed to releasing the album independently, but it was soon delayed indefinitely. Ekko Astral also pulled out of a trans-rights festival that they were set to appear at. Now, the band has revealed once and for all that “ot’s time to end things.”
The statement announced, The final Ekko Astral shows for the foreseeable future will be a free outdoor performance on Aug. 22 in New York City and a finale gig on Aug. 27 in Washington, D.C. with our friends Right Chipper and Berra.”
The couple of farewell performances will span the band’s entire catalogue and mark “the last events where we plan to play tracks from this discography for a very long time.”
If this wasn’t clear enough for fans, the statement continued, “These are the last shows we plan to do as Ekko Astral for the foreseeable future. We are putting the band on indefinite hiatus to prioritize other musical projects. We also no longer have plans to release the beltway is burning any time soon.”
They leave fans with a tiny glimmer of hope, confessing that there might be “one day [when] that record will see the light of day”.
The post went on to thank their 10,000 Instagram followers, adding, “Ekko Astral rose up out of bedroom jams and basement shows to become a dream realised. We’re eternally grateful to every single person who helped us along the way.”
