Ed Gale, who played horror legend Chucky, has died aged 61

Ed Gale, best known for his 1988 portrayal of horror icon Chucky, has passed away at the age of 61. His cause of death was not revealed.

The news of his passing was revealed by his niece, Kayse Gale. She shared a Facebook statement paying tribute to her “fun uncle,” explaining that he has “taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife.”

The post reminisced about Gale’s crazy journey to fame. It began with Gale hitching a ride to California at 20 with just $41 in his pocket and ended with more than 130 movies, TV shows, and commercials under his belt.

Despite this impressive number, Gale was best known for bringing Chucky to life in the original Child’s Play, as well as two other films in the killer doll franchise.

Kayse’s post continued: “Ed’s favourite role was that of the ‘fun uncle’. His love language was sharing his love of the entertainment industry and the magic of Hollywood with his nieces.”

His niece added humour to the post: “He lit up the silver screens in cult classic films like Howard the Duck and Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, earning himself some serious street cred at every con he attended. Which he never stopped bragging about. Ever.”

Despite the heartfelt post, Gale was surrounded by controversy before he passed. He had previously admitted to having sexually explicit online conversations with a boy he thought was 14. The confession came as he was caught in a sting operation by the child advocacy group Creep Catchers Unit.

Despite this happening in 2023, the Child’s Play performer was yet to be taken into custody. Investigations into such sting cases can be lengthy, as intent has to be established beyond a confession and evidence.

According to TMZ, he passed away on May 27th in a hospice.
