Echo and the Bunnymen postpone show on US tour after Ian McCulloch involved in road traffic accident
Echo and the Bunnymen have postponed a concert in Philadelphia after singer Ian McCulloch was involved in a road traffic accident.
The iconic group are currently on the road in North America and were due to perform at The Filmore in Philadelphia on June 7th, but took the difficult decision to postpone the concert just hours before it was due to begin.
Taking to social media, Echo and the Bunnymen shared with fans, “While travelling from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia, Ian McCulloch’s vehicle was involved in a road traffic incident. As a result, Ian required medical treatment.”
On a positive note, they revealed that “the injuries sustained are not believed to be serious”, but noted that “he has been left understandably shaken by the incident.”
Their message continued, “As a precautionary measure, Ian is undergoing further medical assessment, including scans and X-rays.”
However, to stay on the safe side, they remorsefully announced the Philadelphia show would not be going ahead, adding, “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to postpone tonight’s performance in Philadelphia. Postponing a show is always a last resort. We never want to disappoint our fans, and we know many of you will have made plans to attend this evening’s concert.”
They also asked fans “to retain their tickets while we work through the next steps”, and promised that “a further update regarding the show will be provided as soon as possible.”
Echo and the Bunnymen’s message concluded, “We sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience caused, and thank you for your understanding and support.”
It has been a busy year for Echo and the Bunnymen, who have been on the road as part of their More Songs to Learn and Sing tour, which they previously took around the UK.
Then, in May, they began the North American leg of the tour following a visit to South America. Upcoming shows include stops in Brooklyn, Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis.
On June 30th, they will play a huge homecoming show at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool as special guests of My Chemical Romance.
