E Street Band’s Steven Van Zandt has emergency surgery after concert with Bruce Sprinsteen in Spain

E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt has been admitted to hospital in Spain following a concert in San Sebastian with Bruce Springsteen.

On June 23rd, Springsteen’s European tour rolled into the Basque Country for his performance at the Anoeta Stadium, the home of Real Sociedad FC. However, Van Zandt suddenly began experiencing stomach pains that forced him to seek medical assistance.

Van Zandt wrote on X: “Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis.”

Springsteen is set to play the Anoeta Stadium again on June 24th, before playing the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen and two shows at the iconic San Siro in Milan. Van Zandt has ruled himself out of the next three dates, but hopes to return for the final night of the tour.

The guitarist continued: “Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian. Operation was a complete success and I’m hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. Thank you all for all the good vibes. See you soon.”

Coverage of the European tour has been dominated by Springsteen’s passionate speeches against Donald Trump’s regime, which sparked a brief feud between ‘The Boss’ and the politician.

Far Out was at Springsteen’s show in Liverpool at Anfield on June 4th. Before playing ‘Land of Hopes and Dreams’, he told the stadium: “The America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”

Springsteen reiterated his concerns in a recent interview with The Sunday Times, stating, “We’re living through a terrible moment in history, where Congress has neutered itself and the boundaries that once curtailed this type of leadership have disintegrated.”

The New Jersey icon also hit out at the ongoing ICE raids and the immigration policy of the administration, stating they are “disgusting and dehumanising for so many folks who live here in the country”.
