Bruce Springsteen condemns “disgusting and dehumanising” ICE raids under Trump administration
Bruce Springsteen has again criticised President Donald Trump’s regime, labelling the ongoing ICE raids as “disgusting and dehumanising”.
During his ongoing European tour, Springsteen has been delivering a series of identical speeches at each performance in cities across the continent, ranging from Prague to Liverpool, against the current administration in the US, which caused a hostile reaction from Trump on social media.
At one stage in the show, he tells the crowd: “The America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”
Now, in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Springsteen has lamented the current powerbrokers of the White House, stating, “We’re living through a terrible moment in history, where Congress has neutered itself and the boundaries that once curtailed this type of leadership have disintegrated.”
He also claimed it’s currently the most destructive regime he’s lived through, echoing the “happening now” part of his speech, which has been a stalwart of his recent sets.
Springsteen said: “The pure incompetence of [the administration] may carry the seeds of its own destruction. But I don’t know what’s going to happen. I haven’t lived through a time like this in my entire life and I’m 75 years-old.”
The rocker also hit out at the ongoing ICE raids and the immigration policy of the administration, stating they are “disgusting and dehumanising for so many folks who live here in the country”.
This is another area that Springsteen has been addressing on tour. He said in Manchester: “They’re removing residents off American streets and, without due process of law, are deporting them to foreign detention centers and prisons. This is all happening now.”
Although Trump initially engaged by responding on social media to Springsteen’s comments, including threatening to launch an investigation into the musician’s support of the Democratic Party, he has not mentioned the singer-songwriter on social media in more than a month.
Meanwhile, Springsteen is set to release his new box set compilation, Tracks II: The Lost Albums, on June 27th, which consists of seven full albums that have never previously been shared with fans. He also recently revealed he has five more records ready to go.
