Dylan Farrow has reacted angrily following the revelation that actress Scarlett Johansson defended Woody Allen amid sexual abuse allegations.
Farrow, who was the adopted daughter of Allen, accused the filmmaker of sexually abusing her when she was seven-years-old—accusations have resurfaced in recent years due to the #MeToo movement.
As a result of the claims, high profile actors such as Timothée Chalamet, Kate Winslet, Greta Gerwig and more distancing themselves from previous work with Allen. Despite that, Johansson recently came forward in defence of the filmmaker: “I love Woody,” Johansson said in an interview with THR. “I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”
Allen, who has played a major impact in Johansson’s career, cast her in a number of his projects including the likes of Match Point, Scoop and Vicky Cristina Barcelona most of which received impressive reviews and box office sales.
Johansson added: “I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
“It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably,” she continued. “Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”
Now, in response to Johansson’s defence of Allen, Farrow has taken to social media to slam her decision to stand by the “predator” by stating: “Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who ‘maintain their innocence’ without question.”
She added: “Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.”
