Dua Lipa sues Samsung for $15 million for using her image on TV boxes
Dua Lipa has launched a $15 million lawsuit against electrical giant Samsung.
The English star’s legal filing relates to the alleged use of her face on television boxes without her permission or any payment.
In the lawsuit, which was filed on May 8th, reads, “Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever.”
It also insists, “Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.”
The picture that allegedly appeared on the television boxes is owned by Dua Lipa and was taken during her performance at the Austin City Limits festival in 2024.
The filing alleges that Samsung began to put the image on its television boxes, as well as marketing materials for the product, in 2025.
Per The Independent, the lawsuit claims that Lipa contacted Samsung after learning of the advertisement, but accused them of acting in a “dismissive and callous” manner and refusing the request.
It also accuses Samsung of profiting from her image, citing Instagram comments, such as, “Get that TV just because Dua is on it,” and, “If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it”.
Another fan remarked on social media, “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.”
The filing states that the 30-year-old, who recently became a global ambassador for Nespresso, is “highly selective” about the brands she chooses to work with, claiming Samsung’s use of her image “makes a mockery of her hard work in establishing a successful brand and has deprived her of the ability to control and monetize her assets”.
Dua Lipa is seeking “no less than $15m” in actual damages from Samsung, as well as punitive damages and legal costs.
Samsung have yet to respond to the lawsuit.
